Floyd Schofield Jr.’s Father Has Confident Message About The Gervonta Davis Negotiations

Floyd Schofield Sr. says negotiations for a WBA lightweight title fight between his son Floyd Schofield Jr. and Gervonta Davis are progressing and his team is ready for the challenge, describing it as the next step on their road to greatness.

Schofield Sr. spoke to BoxingScene with a June 22 deadline approaching for the two sides to reach an agreement.

“It’s a huge fight for Floyd Jr. He’s obviously looking sharp. It’s a dangerous matchup, but we feel good. We’ve worked our behind off from being homeless to get to this, and ‘Kid’ holds two WBA titles already. So, you know, it’s just the next step to see on our road of greatness.”

He dismissed concerns about Davis’ extended absence from the ring.

“We know he’s stayed in the gym. ‘Tank’ is doing everything like he had a fight coming up already. ‘Tank’ is still a dangerous fighter. It’s going to be one hell of a fight, a great fight for the fans. We want the fight, and we’re going to win the fight.”

Schofield Jr. enters at 19-0 with 13 knockouts. He last fought in June 2025, stopping former world champion Tevin Farmer to secure his position as WBA number one contender. Davis is 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts and has not fought since his majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025.

If no agreement is reached by June 22, the WBA could order a purse bid.

Gervonta Davis’ Mandatory Title Defense Is In Serious Jeopardy

Negotiations for Gervonta Davis’ mandatory WBA lightweight title defense have effectively stalled, with Floyd Schofield Sr. saying his team is now in a 20-day waiting period before the WBA determines its next step.

Schofield Sr. told MillCity Boxing that legal complications on Davis’ side have brought talks to a halt.

“We can’t do nothing until the WBA says. Supposed to be in negotiations for another 20 days with Tank people, but according to what the lawyers say, they can’t be in negotiations now. So, I’m in limbo for 20 more days while they got that mandate up that they got to make a fight. Tank people got to make a fight with us within 20 more days.”

He described a confusing series of WBA title decisions that have left his son, Floyd Schofield Jr., uncertain about who and when he will fight.

“They took the belt. They put him in recess. We were supposed to fight Bahdi. They gave us a date. Then they took the belt back, gave it to Tank. Then they going to take it back from Tank. We don’t know which one of them we going to fight on which date because of Tank situation. So that’s why we didn’t fight nobody yet. We got to wait to see who we fighting.”

If an agreement cannot be reached before the negotiation period expires on June 22, the WBA could be forced to order purse bids or take other action on the title.

Davis has not fought since his controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025. He has since dealt with legal issues including an active arrest warrant in Maryland tied to an alleged probation violation, further complicating plans for his return.

Schofield Jr., 23, is 19-0 and has been viewed as one of lightweight’s rising contenders. His planned title challenge against Shakur Stevenson was canceled during fight week in 2025 when he fell ill.

Gervonta Davis Facing Active Arrest Warrant

Gervonta Davis is facing a new legal setback after a Maryland judge issued an active arrest warrant tied to an alleged probation violation, according to multiple reports.

The warrant stems from Davis’ ongoing probation connected to his 2020 hit-and-run case in Baltimore, in which several people were injured. Davis had previously pleaded guilty to multiple traffic-related offenses and remained under court supervision.

The latest development centers around an alleged October 2025 altercation at Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami, where Davis’ ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel worked as a VIP cocktail server. Rossel accused Davis of physically grabbing her and attempting to take her phone during a confrontation at the venue. Surveillance footage from the club was reportedly reviewed by investigators. The incident is alleged to have violated the terms of his probation.

Davis was arrested in Florida earlier this year on charges including battery and attempted kidnapping. A false imprisonment charge was eventually dropped, but other charges remain active.

A Maryland judge initially issued a warrant in February before recalling it after Davis’ legal team argued he was cooperating with authorities. A second warrant issued in April has remained active after a motion to dismiss it was denied in May.

Davis, 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts, has not fought since a controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025. A planned crossover fight with Jake Paul was scrapped following the civil lawsuit filed by Rossel. The active warrant creates further uncertainty around his boxing future.

Gervonta Davis Surveillance Footage Surfaces in Strip Club Case

Gervonta Davis is back in the legal spotlight as surveillance footage from a Miami strip club has surfaced in his ongoing civil case. The footage, shown in a Miami courtroom, comes from security cameras inside Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami Gardens.

The clips emerged during a recent civil court hearing tied to a lawsuit filed against Davis by an ex-girlfriend. The lawsuit stems from an alleged incident on October 27.

    Legal Battle Continues

According to TMZ, the surveillance footage was presented as part of the ongoing proceedings. The case centers on allegations made by Davis’ former partner regarding the October incident at the Miami Gardens venue.

Davis, who holds a professional record of 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts, is a former WBA world champion across three weight classes. The lightweight contender previously held titles at super featherweight, lightweight, and super lightweight.

The civil case remains active as both sides continue to present evidence in Miami court.

Gervonta Davis in Advanced Talks for Isaac Cruz Rematch

Gervonta “Tank” Davis is in advanced talks for a summer 2026 rematch against Isaac Cruz at super lightweight (140 lbs), according to Ring Magazine’s Mike Coppinger. “I expect it to happen,” Coppinger reported this week, signaling genuine momentum behind the matchup.

Davis, 31, has not fought since a controversial draw with Lamont Roach in March 2025 — a result many observers believed should have gone in Roach’s favor.

The prolonged absence has mounted pressure on the Baltimore star to return, and a rematch with Cruz carries the kind of unfinished-business appeal that could drive significant interest.

Cruz Provided One of Tank’s Toughest Tests

Davis first defeated Cruz by unanimous decision in 2021, but the fight was one of the most difficult nights of Tank’s career, with the rugged Mexican brawler bringing relentless pressure throughout.

A second fight at 140 pounds — rather than the weight of their first meeting — sets up a different tactical challenge and gives Cruz an opening to make a different argument on the scorecards.

If the fight gets finalized, it would slot Davis into what promises to be an active summer on the boxing calendar.
